Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh

Located in the southern reaches of Madhya Pradesh, Pench Tiger Reserve is one of India’s most celebrated wildlife destinations—renowned not just for its thriving population of Royal Bengal Tigers, but also as the very inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling’s timeless classic, “The Jungle Book.” Spread across the picturesque Satpura hills, the reserve covers an area of 758 sq km, including the core and buffer zones.

Pench is home to an impressive range of species including leopards, wild dogs (dhole), sloth bears, gaur (Indian bison), and the elusive jungle cat, alongside more than 285 species of birds. The reserve’s rich biodiversity and healthy prey base make it one of the best places in Central India for tiger sightings.

Well-managed safari zones, professional guides, and excellent eco-lodges make Pench a top choice for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and families alike. Safari drives through the park offer a thrilling opportunity to witness nature at its rawest—whether it’s tracking fresh pugmarks, watching a herd of deer on alert, or catching a glimpse of a tiger emerging from the forest.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Pench Tiger Reserve is during the winter season, from October to February, due to pleasant weather and a comfortable environment for safaris. The park is closed during the monsoon season (July to September) because of heavy rainfall. The park reopens in October, making early October and the winter months ideal for diverse wildlife sightings, including the chance to see tigers.
